Korzhavin, Naum – Poet and writer

Born in 1925, he entered the Maxim Gorky Literary Institute when 20. In 1947, after a denunciation, he was arrested and accused of anti-Soviet propaganda. He was banished, and until 1951 he was in exile in Siberia, and later in Karaganda, which in the 1940s and ’50s had a population made up primarily of exiles.

In 1954, he was permitted to return to Moscow after an amnesty. In 1956, he was rehabilitated and allowed to continue his studies at the Literary Institute.
