DOMUS PATRIS
Exarch Fyodorov
Truth and Darkness [27:23]
Leonid Fyodorov himself came to realize the truth of the Universal Church. For the realization of this ideal, when 23 years old he left Russia and went to Italy and converted to Catholicism. He studied in Italy and Switzerland, becoming a Greek Catholic priest and later taking monastic vows.
Thanks to the religious freedom of early 1917, he could be named Exarch, the head of the Eastern Rite Catholics in Russia. But after the Bolshevik revolution he suffered serious persecution and banishment, till his death of exhaustion in 1934.
On June 27, 2001 in L’viv, Pope John Paul II beatified Exarch Leonid Fyodorov.

Film's Description
Leonid Fyodorov is an outstanding example of the search for truth, the Truth in capital letters. His sound education and his exceptional intelligence made him overcame great difficulties: the threats from tsarist authorities, the hard studies in foreign countries, the Siberian exile, the foundation of the Eastern Catholic Church in Russia, the dialogue between Orthodox and Catholics in front of the Bolshevik atheism, and later the concentration camp.
Leonid Fyodorov also led a secret life: a spiritual battle with the Evil, that Father Leonid felt as a reality, as in his personal defence in front of the anger and hatred of the prosecutors in the 1923 trials . In his sober attitude, looking at the persecution of believers, his reflection was: ‘I am convinced that if our blood is spilt, and in large quantities, this will be the best fundamentum Ecclesiae Russicae Catholicae, otherwise we will not be living, but stagnating in our dark, unenlightened ‘Soviet life’… ‘We are the fertilizer for Russia’s spiritual rebirth’.
