Film's Description

One of the participants in the film about Bishop Antony Maletsky, a Catholic priest, said that a great deal about the history of the church became clear to him when he read Lenin’s phrase, “God is my personal enemy.” The struggle against God and His servants brought our country much evil and an unbelievable number of losses. One such loss was the closing of the Catholic work shops, shelter, and gymnasium that were created by Father Antony Maletsky. His entire life of creation and his patience during his Via Dolorosa through prisons and exile are the subject of the film “Bishop Maletsky.” Newsreels from those years were preserved in secret archives, and many kilometers of film were destroyed. The items that were released during the years of perestroika are merely a small, remaining fragment. Despite the scarcity of materials, the director was able to present the tragedy of the situation to the viewer in full, picking out appropriate newsreel clips that accurately convey the spirit and the emotional background of that troubled period.
