Film's Description
One could say that an attempt to awaken sleeping souls by showing a dramatic example of holiness in a non-Orthodox environment was the primary idea of the film “Doctor Haass.” This film provides information for consideration: Could it really be that we have become so accustomed to brutality that we don’t even notice it, and that only one person’s reaction to it could open our eyes to it as well? Has much really changed in 100 years’ time? The film gives rise to questions. Did Doctor Haass’ holiness manifest itself exclusively in that he gave away all his wealth – according to the Scripture, “He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor,” or was it his understanding of true human nature – the connection of the body, the soul and the spirit, or in his gift for healing the soul, and only then the body? The story is not only about the details of his biography, but also about this remarkable individual’s views, and the participation of Catholic and Orthodox priests creates a distinctive polyphony. It’s as if 100 years ago the melody of his life rang out, and now its echo rings in the thoughts and actions of our contemporaries, inflaming hearts with compassion and love for the unfortunate and awakening us to action. Everything in the film “Doctor Haass” is dedicated to fostering such an idea – the music, the staged scenes, the pictures included in the documentary film and the text. The result is quite interesting.
