Age of Change
After the Fall of Communism
In the former "Empire of Evil”, suddenly people were once again free to practice their religious faiths. The Church was freed from any prohibitions and government supervision. It seemed that the Fatima Prophecies about Russia became reality… But in front of our very eyes, Russia is again transforming into an empire with a predominantly Orthodox and nationalist ideology.
This film project could provide viewers with a journey through this 20 years’ time of transition.
The film could also present an untold analysis by comparing the Fatima Prophecies about Russia and reality, with a tentative set of conclusions: have the Church and Christians in general used the opportunities that arose with the onset of Perestroika in God’s grace?
Flashes about the project
The story about the events and changes in Russia and about the Catholic Church in that Country, from the eve of Perestroika to actual rapidly changing situation, are a fascinating example of the problems facing modern Christians.
From the religious protagonists of these events – Archbishop Kandrusievich, the Apostolic Nuncio Bishop Mennini, priests and believers of both Catholic and Orthodox Churches - to people who are not religious and who are searching for truth, the film can present contrasting thoughts and alive testimonies of great interest.
Before the fall of the USSR, the intelligentsia attended church, despite persecution, underground circles and communes appeared, the few remaining churches were full for Easter and Christmas, the spiritual sons of Father Alexander Men received communion with Catholics. It seemed as though a union was a possibility after all... What happened later?
A decline in education, morals and a broken down system of values for the vacuum of political power resulted in increased alcoholism, nationalism, and impoverishment of most of the country’s population. Catholic charitable organizations came to Russia and gave Catholics the opportunity to aid drug addicts and homeless people, feed the poor and the elderly and provide those in need with humanitarian aid. Thanks to donations from Catholics in the West, Orthodox churches were restored throughout the country.
The film will use a large number of photographs and videos from our studio's archives and shootings, recreating the context of that time and giving a stimulating basis for understanding one of the most “revolutionary” event of our times.
Freedom of faith
Less than 20 years ago, the Soviet Union gave origin to several new countries on the territory of the former "Empire of Evil.” In Russia, people were once again free to practice their religious faiths. The Church was freed from any prohibitions and government supervision. What new freedoms have been given to the country and the Church?
Since the Perestroika, Catholic and Orthodox houses of worsh...
The Prophecies of Fatima
Our Lady, appearing in Fatima "brighter than the sun", had already foretold it on July 13th, 1917, four months before the Bolshevik revolution broke out:
"If my requests are abode by, Russia will be converted and there will be peace…. Otherwise, she will spread her mistakes all over the world, promoting wars and persecutions against the Church…. Many good ones will be martyred, the Holy Father ...
